What is TIJ (Thermal Inkjet)?

Understanding thermal inkjet printing, its high resolution, and cartridge-based economics.

Thermal Inkjet (TIJ) uses a heating element to vaporize ink and eject a precise droplet onto a substrate — the same fundamental principle used in many desktop inkjet printers, scaled for industrial use.

TIJ delivers excellent, high-resolution print quality, making it a strong choice for barcodes, QR codes, and logos on cartons and labels. It is low-maintenance because the printhead is often integrated into the cartridge itself.

The primary consideration is cost per print: cartridges cost more per millilitre than bulk CIJ ink, so TIJ economics work best when high resolution matters more than absolute lowest running cost — or when bulk-feed (CTIJ) options are used at scale.
